The EcoSec Story

EcoSec Works was born from a confluence of vision, passion, and expertise—an ambitious endeavor spearheaded by three pioneering minds: Tom Caldwell, Anders Viden, and Greg Ricchiuti. Each brought a unique perspective and skill set, converging to form what would become one of the most innovative Agentic AI companies in the renewable energy market.

The story begins in the early 2020s, a time when the world was grappling with an accelerated shift toward electrification and renewable energy. The electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure was expanding at an unprecedented rate, but with it came an urgent need for security, reliability, and efficiency. As cyber threats against critical infrastructure escalated, it became evident that the existing security solutions were insufficient to protect this rapidly evolving ecosystem.

Tom Caldwell, a cybersecurity expert with deep roots in threat intelligence, saw the vulnerabilities within EV charging networks. He envisioned a future where security was not an afterthought but an integral component of the infrastructure. Meanwhile, Anders Viden, a thought leader in renewable energy systems, understood the operational challenges and opportunities within the industry. He saw how intelligent automation and adaptive security could redefine the way renewable energy assets were managed. Greg Ricchiuti, a systems architect specializing in scalable cloud  automation, recognized the potential for leveraging data analytics and EV operations KPIs to transform EV charging infrastructure security and efficiency. Combining that data cloud knowledge and experience with Tom's vision for Agentic AI , plus Ander's vision of a virtual SOC operated by AI agents gave birth to the launch of the EcoSec Works platform.

 What began as a series of discussions over coffee and late-night brainstorming sessions soon evolved into a concrete vision. The trio realized that by combining their expertise, they could pioneer a new frontier in cybersecurity and operational intelligence for EV charging infrastructures.

In 2024, they officially founded EcoSec Works, driven by the mission to safeguard the integrity of renewable energy ecosystems through AI-powered security and automation. The company was built on three foundational pillars:

1. Cybersecurity First – Protecting EV chargers and renewable energy grids from cyber threats using proactive, AI-driven defense mechanisms.
2. Agentic AI – Deploying intelligent AI agents capable of self-learning, adaptive threat response, and automated remediation. Autonomous AI Agents can form plans from workflows, and self-orchestrate solutions.
3. Sustainable Innovation – Ensuring that security and efficiency go hand-in-hand with the global push for renewable energy adoption.

 EcoSec Works wasted no time in making an impact. The company’s first breakthrough was the development of GaurDiane, an advanced AI sentinel designed to monitor, predict, and neutralize cyber threats targeting EV charging infrastructures. Unlike traditional security systems, GaurDiane operated autonomously, continuously adapting to emerging threats in real-time. She is capable of conversational AI with humans.

Within its first year, EcoSec Works secured partnerships with leading Charge Point Operators (CPOs), ecosystem partners such as Fortinet, Charge Station Management Systems (CSMS), Microgrid industry vendors, and industry expert advisors. Their solutions were soon recognized as essential components for next-generation EV infrastructure security. They set a new industry standard by integrating AI and the latest cloud data technologies for risk detection and monitoring, including real-time threat intelligence for the EV Charger infrastructure domain.

Today, EcoSec Works is at the forefront of the renewable energy cybersecurity revolution. The company continues to push the boundaries of innovation, developing new AI-driven solutions that not only secure EV charging networks but also enhance their efficiency and sustainability.
